Eurasian Natural Resources Corp, a London-listed mining group, said on Wednesday that it wanted to make acquisitions outside its native Kazakhstan and in new commodities to increase the diversity of its businesses.

But after admitting last month that it was looking at a combination with Kazakhmys, the London-listed Kazakh copper miner, ENRC was tight-lipped on how likely it was to make a bid for the group. Kazakhmys this week asked the UK Takeover Panel to set a put-up-or-shut-up deadline on ENRC, adding that no talks had yet taken place.
