Fed will cut again, says ex-official

The Federal Reserve is likely to cut interest rates by another quarter point to 4.5 per cent at its policy meeting next week, the Fed's former top staff official has told the Financial Times.

Vincent Reinhart, who was director of monetary affairs and secretary to the Federal Open Market Committee for six years before stepping down this summer to join the American Enterprise Institute, said: "I would expect them to ease another quarter point at the coming meeting."
