Strike threat shuts Scottish refinery

Threatened industrial action closed a “crucial” Scottish oil refinery on Friday and is set to shut down half of Britain’s North Sea oil output as possible fuel shortages loomed ahead of Sunday’s strike.

The Grangemouth refinery closed on Friday night ahead of the planned two-day action by 1,200 workers in a bitter row over pensions that threatens fuel supplies in Scotland and the north of England.
