Platinum rebounds following Lonmin bid

Platinum prices rallied on Wednesday after Lonmin, the platinum producer, rejected a £5bn bid by Xstrata while crude oil prices sank towards the $117 level after US inventories data.

Analysts at Ambrian said Xstrata’s bid for Lonmin showed that strategic buyers saw current equity valuations as an opportunity and reflected confidence in the long-term outlook for the platinum market.
