From Mr Noah Johnson.

Sir, I live in Pasadena, California, and some genius in public service had the brilliant idea of covering the boxes that house the electrical systems on our streets with bright colours, pictures, and quotes from historical figures. Reading your report (December 10) about authoritarian regimes’ clamour for censorship and regulation of the internet I was reminded of one of my favourite quotes, set against neon orange: “Censorship reflects a society’s lack of confidence in itself. It is the hallmark of an authoritarian regime.”

The late Potter Stewart, myself, and at least one of Pasadena’s public servants support the US delegation to Doha in keeping the internet unregulated.
