The game of golf is never boring as long as you play at good clubs in the company of agreeable people. But even if you do that, and even if the sun is shining as well, there can still be moments of great frustration on the course and I don’t just mean when you duff another simple pitch into a bunker.
Watching a player in a four-ball match in front of you laboriously examining the line of a 4ft putt which, judging by how long he’s taken to play the hole is probably for a triple bogey, is not fun. Waiting for him to then move his trolley, which he has parked on the wrong side of the green, just adds insult to injury.
