French consumer spending falls in June

Falling car sales dented French consumer spending on manufactured goods in June, amid signs that households are likely to tighten their belts further in the second half of the year.

Insee, the French statistical agency, said Wednesday that spending on manufactured goods fell by 0.4 per cent in June compared to May, when spending had risen by an unexpectedly strong 1.7 per cent.
