1. Golden Tulip Residenz Hotel
Although this hotel is part of a US chain, it is based in one of the most beautiful old-Berlin town houses near Ku'damm, and guests enjoy the intimate, characterful atmosphere. The turn-of-the-century rooms are tastefully furnished, and the restaurant has outdoor seating in summer.

2. Hotel-Pension Dittberner
Berlin's best guesthouse, close to Ku'damm, consists of several rooms in an old building, connected by endless corridors with lots of nooks and crannies. Some of the furniture has seen better days, but breakfast and atmosphere are perfect.

3. Alexander-Plaza
Based in an historic building from the late 19th century, this hotel perfectly combines old and new features. The elegant rooms are decorated with plaster ceiling mouldings and equipped with timelessly sophisticated furnishings. This is a very pleasant hotel indeed, both to look at and to stay in.

4. DeragResidenzhotel Henriette
A stylish hotel with classic decoration - oak-panelled walls and thick carpets and curtains adorn the rooms, which are arranged around an inner courtyard. Few hotels in town are better than this, and the service is very friendly.

5. Hotel Gendarm
This small hotel on Gendarmenmarkt is based in a venerable town residence. The rooms, too, with their design and furnishings, seem to hark back to the 19th century, but in fact everything is brand-new. The hotel also boasts a sauna, pool and fitness facilities.

6. Hotel-Pension Wittelsbach
The furnishings in this medium-sized hotel-guesthouse are hopelessly stuck in the 1970s - and this is what makes it so charming. The service is very friendly, children and pets are both welcome, and the breakfast buffet is so generous that you won't need to eat anything else for the rest of the day.
